Your Business on Steroids
The new trend seems to be finding a word to focus one’sgoals upon, eschewing the lengthy resolution. I’m finding the well-intentionedwords all over FaceBook. I’m not sure how I feel about this.
Words are my bread and butter, but the idea of distilling forward motion into one word, a word with multiple meanings, a word without any implied action…it feels a lot like those sentences missing key elements. You know what I mean. Where are you(r) favorite place(s) to shop (for) clothes online? (It) Can be boutiques or retailers. Comment below (if you would). Before you get all paranoid, No, I don’t critique posts on FaceBook or websites, so rest easy. I’m simply illustrating a disturbing pattern that has emerged in general online conversation. Don’t let this trend sneak its way into your business!
Here’s the problem. Word(s) define your business.Word(s) can take your business from the mundane to superior achievementwith specific goals, specific word pictures, specific stories. No one word willaccomplish this, so no, I guess I’m not a fan of the whole word thing.Do I set resolutions? No. I’m also not a fan of falling off the wagon, so whyset myself up for failure?
What am I suggesting? As we are catapulted into 2020, Iencourage you to dredge up words to propel your company forward. Think inverbs rather than nouns. Remove the gerunds. Look at the difference between findingnew outlets and discover unexpected opportunities in new outlets. Don’tadd words for the sake of looking smart. Do add words to push a sluggishbusiness goal into a chiseled, muscled, steroid type of super-goal focused ondriving your business from today to a more profitable tomorrow. Your businessdeserves awardwinning words. That’s what we all want, right?
